I am a media specialist in a Title I school where the majority of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. I think the students in my school are very special. Even though they have many economic disadvantages, they work really hard and never give up. They are dedicated students and put in lots of effort to be successful with their school work. They not only want to succeed, but they want their peers to succeed as well. They work in teams to make sure everyone understands the concepts and no one gets left behind or falls through the cracks.
Every year our school has a Battle of the Books Club. This club is comprised of my students who love to read but also reluctant readers. Students read the Sunshine State Young Reader titles. My reluctant readers are often motivated when they see their peers reading the same book as they are.
These books are high interest books that hook kids on reading.
The students come back looking for the next title on the list and they are competitive when it comes to answering the comprehension questions to prepare themselves for the Battle of the Book battle.
Please help me get these books into my student's hands.
