it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you remember walking into your favorite grade school classroom and having all the supplies you could have ever imagined? Colored paper, scissors, writing tools, oh my! In the classroom that I will be occupying this upcoming school year, the closets are bare and there are very few supplies.
In my second grade classroom, students are encouraged to think out-of-the-box, to think creatively.
I believe that it is my job to allow my students to feel comfortable enough to aim higher than their goals and reach for the stars!
Students at my school all come from low-income/poverty stricken families. My school also services two shelters so many students are coming from that environment, as well. My students are excited second graders, ready to tackle whatever comes at them. However, most of my students go home to parents who don't speak English and work full time; therefore, they aren't able to help or support their children with their academics. I believe that it is my job to help my students foster a love and appreciation for their academics so they can become successful students and successful individuals in today's society.
My Project
My students need colored paper, scissors, lapboards, dry erase markers, and pocket charts to enhance their learning experiences within the classroom. My students are creative children who thrive for hands-on experiences within the classroom. With the requested materials, it is my goal for my students to use these materials on a daily basis to enhance their learning.
Let's say your teacher just taught a lesson about asking and answering questions. She sends you back to your seat to read a book, come up with some questions, then find the answers. Boring topic, right? Well, now imagine taking a piece of colored construction paper and making a pamphlet for the book you've decided to read. Your pamphlet would include a cover, a section for asking questions, and a section for answering those questions. Doesn't that sound like a more enjoyable learning experience?
It is my hope and goal to make all of my students more engaged with each and every lesson that I teach, by using creative materials to enhance their hands-on experiences.
Learning doesn't have to be just reading and writing. Learning can be fun!
This project will make a difference because my students thrive for fun activities to enhance their learning.
By using white boards during a math lesson, the teacher is able to assess students learning as the learning is happening. By having creative scissors and colorful construction paper, the hands-on activities that follow a reading or writing lesson, can provide my students this upcoming year with endless possibilities!
