This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school has been known for excellent academics, building a rich heritage for many years. It has always attracted the best and the brightest students in our city. This is an application school for high-performing and gifted students, serving grades Pre-Kindergarten to 8.
My art students are very talented artists who truly love creating art.
The young artists here create excellent artwork in many mediums. Everyday they impress me with unique ideas and a passion for art. Unfortunately, my art students do not have all the supplies for painting.
My Project
Having mostly taught elementary art for most of my years as teacher I'm still learning what works best for middle school art. I have slowly learned I can do things with them that elementary school students cannot do. Graphic art projects are excellent art lessons for my older middle school students. This year we are doing design art projects. For one my students will create logo designs for fictional companies. They will also design uniforms for sports teams and invent an original flag. These projects work best not with crayons (which my middle school students see as beneath them) and not colored pencils, but markers. My classroom does not have enough markers to do the middle school design projects. My classroom is not being supplied with this basic supply and I hope you can help us.
