My Project

At our high school, we teach 9th grade students who are curious, creative, and eager to make sense of big ideas, especially when they get the chance to see how literature connects to their own lives. Like most people, our students thrive when learning feels meaningful, relatable, and authentic. They ask thoughtful questions, love to debate characters’ choices, and get excited when stories resonate with experiences they've had in their own lives. In our Romeo and Juliet unit, students explore the central question: Why do we still read Shakespeare? They analyze how themes such as love, conflict, fate, and choice are developed throughout the play, and they compare how these themes are conveyed in both text and film. Seeing how professional actors interpret Shakespeare’s language, emotions, and conflicts helps students better understand tone, character motivation, and theme in ways that reading alone may not always provide.

For many of our students, this will be their first time experiencing live theater, making it an especially powerful and memorable learning opportunity.

Attending a live performance of Romeo and Juliet will bring everything we read in class to life.

Your support will help our students move beyond simply reading Shakespeare to truly experiencing it. By bringing them to the Arvada Center, you are giving them access to art, culture, and a deeper understanding of literature, while also building their confidence as readers, writers, and thinkers.
