This is a Title One school. We have a high number of students receiving free and reduced lunches.
I have a wonderful group of students who are thrilled to be learning new techniques and concepts.
I want to open their eyes to new reading material. My students dread learning about poetry and I want to show them the exciting poetry books available to them. My classroom library is full of fiction books, but to have biographies will truly open their eyes to what people, just like them, can do! I also want to incorporate digital media to them. We spend time researching projects and I need to show them what reliable sources look like. My goal is to make sure that each and every student has a positive, nurturing environment to learn and grow. I’m not only teaching educational skills, but life skills as well.
My Project
After I read, ‘The Book Whisperer’, I challenged my students to a 40 Book Challenge. Each student is given a number of books to read in a particular genre, but they can select ANY book in that genre! Students are having a great time challenging each other and making book recommendations to each other. I’m lacking poetry and biographies in my classroom library, so I would like to add to those sections. We recently got ten Chromebooks that my class of 19 use. I’d like to teach them how to find reputable sources for information and research. Adding the Time Life digital edition will allow me to show students proper research techniques, while also safely teaching them about current events in the world.
