Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income district, my students are faced with difficult challenges both in and out of the classroom. We work hard to provide our students with a safe learning environment every day. We are a Title I school, and 80% of our student population are Hispanics who receive free or reduced price lunch. Our school is implementing new programs to help our students excel every year. This year we are integrating even more technology.
This kindergarten class is filled with 22 new excited learners.
We are in Salinas, California where most of the students' parents work long hours in the local agriculture for a low wage. They come to school as early as 7:50 am and leave as late as 6 pm.
My Project
My students would love a new way to learn in the classroom. Osmo is an accelerated learning system that uses an iPad, physical objects, and educational tools to keep kids engaged in learning and build their confidence through hands-on play. My students already have one but with 22 students 1 just doesn't cut it.
Osmo’s versatility in the classroom and the way it fosters student learning in key areas like social- emotional, creative-thinking, STEM, and Common Core, are why I love it!
The students find new ways to use it every-time they interact with it! These students also need some new crayons, and a better way to organize their school work. I invested my own money on cardboard fills for the students but hard plastic ones will be so much better, I will be able to use them year after year!
