My Students
We are a Pre-K-4th grade dual language campus with approximately 585 students. My school is a Title I school within a Title I District, which means all of our schools are at 70% or greater living in low social economic households and qualifies them for free or reduced lunches. My school specifically is at 72% disadvantaged. Our school's ethnic background is made up of about 40% African American, 36.8% Hispanic, 14.9% Asian, 5% White, 1.9% American Indian, 0.3%Pacific Islander, and 1/2% two or More Races. My classroom is an English as a Second Language classroom, which means that their home language is not primarily English, and this makes us a very diverse classroom.
First-line instruction is solid and continuous in the classroom setting, we also ensure small group intervention in the classroom to ensure that all students are receiving personalized touch to their education.
All classroom teachers are self-contained. This allows the opportunity for an increased amount of cross-curricular and project-based opportunities to take place in the classrooms. At risk students receive multiple effective interventions to improve their academic performance, our gifted and talented students also receive intervention to enhance and enrich their knowledge of the curriculum.
My Project
After being introduced to Osmo, I knew my classroom and students needed the Osmo Genius Kit system to help them grow in today's technological world.
The Osmo system uses our iPads and hands-on manipulatives to deliver a creative way to engage students in their learning.
Osmo allows students to work through problems, using tile cards, shapes, or their hands to actually follow directions. Osmo is a fun and engaging way to practice everything that they have learned.
I want my students to learn and have fun while they do it! The Osmo kit is a great way to have creative, innovative, "brains-on" activities with hands on materials.
We will use Osmo in the classroom to add new vocabulary and expand our math and engineering skills. I can't wait to see the kids problem solving skills grow creatively with Osmo!
