My Students

My school serves children in a rural area of Alabama. Almost half of the students at my school receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Some of my students also receive book bags of food to take home each Friday that guarantees they will have food while they are not at school. Despite any challenges my students face, they come to school each day with a big smile and greet me with a hug each morning. They are eager to learn and I am eager to teach them all I can while they are in my class!

My fourth grade students are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners.

They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are our future and I want to give them a great start for a great life.

My Project

It is crucial to my students' success in math to master their multiplication facts. The typical way of practicing math facts is to use worksheets. However, I want to make learning more exciting and provide hands on opportunities for my students to learn.

When students create equations using the number tiles in the OSMO kit they are not only building number sentences, but are building understanding and number sense as well.

The OSMO connects to our classroom iPad and allows students to see the equations they are creating on the iPad. The OSMO also comes with games to help reinforce the math facts students are creating and learning.
