Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a high poverty area. Most do not own a computer at home, and if they do, they have limited access to wifi. My hope is to create computer/IPad savy kids by the end of the year!
My students are eager to learn, and our teachers, as well as our school community, are always looking for ways to motivate them.
We have a new principal, who has put the fun back into learning. As technology has evolved, especially with the iPad and the variety of apps, I would like to begin utilizing technology more heavily, in my practice as a teacher, to help children become familiar with using it, while maximizing their level of participation, interaction, and function. It is essential, in creating well rounded students, and gives them the opportunities that they might not otherwise be able to experience.
My Project
The iPad or Apple has an App Store, which has apps designed for students with disabilities, that further support. It has accessibility features, such as the SoundingBoard, which creates customs boards for communication, Proloquo2Go, wihich is touch-to-speak, SoundAmpR, which is auditory amplification, and more. Over 20,000 Education Apps for iPad are out there. I just need one ipad to make a difference! It is well known, that iPad touch technology supports interactive features that include drag and drop, tap, swipe, shake, and drawing. These features add an element of fun to activities, making many apps such as Monkey Preschool Lunchbox and Richard Scarry’s Busytown, to name a couple, a cross-over between “education” and “games.” This creates motivational incentive for children to engage, who might otherwise be less motivated. Osmo is an add on for the IPad. It has a lot of visual games that can improve working cooperatively, as well as assist in improving hand/eye coordination.
You donation for this project, will have an impact on many students with disabilities.
I have classes from kindergarten to 5th-grade. Children are our future. Why not be a part of it, and donate to this project, which will definitely change students' lives for the better.
