Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low socioeconomic school in Southern California where all students receive free lunch. My students are special because they are in a bilingual kindergarten class. Seventy percent of our day is in Spanish and thirty percent of our day is in English. I have 23 students with different needs, personalities, and learning modalities. Most of my students are English language learners, but I do have English speakers who want to learn how to read and write in two languages. How awesome is that?
My Project
My class was kindly donated two Osmos and ipads that are currently being used for language art and math. Coding is the future and I would love my students to begin acquiring the basic coding skills that will prepare them for computer science related professions. I would love to expand my centers by creating a coding group along with other academic areas such as math, language arts, science, and art. These osmo kits teaches students coding fundamentals like if statements, loops, logic, and problem-solving skills. The storage bags will keep our pieces organized and will prevent the loss of any items.
