My students all have significant autism with significant behaviors and low IQs. We are located in a 95% Title I school, but my students are always the favorites at our school.
Our school is very inclusive and love to keep our students involved in all of the general education activities.
My students love to play and interact with their typical peers. Some of my students are verbal and some are non-verbal, but all love coming to school and learning.
My students range for verbal to limited verbal to completely non verbal. Although they are not able to express themselves in the traditional way (with spoken language), they express themselves through a variety of other methods (PECS, communication devices, sign language, etc.).
My Project
Children with special needs typically lack organizational skills. Let's be honest, some adults lack these skills too ;-) These supplies, such as pens, file folders, and notebooks
will help the teacher remain organize and be a model of organization.
It will then trickle down to the students, and help teach them the skills and routines necessary to improve their organizational skills. Students with autism need a routine, and things need to have their place in order for them to have a successful day. These supplies will keep their day organized and structured, and will help the individual students, teacher, and classroom management as a whole. Students with autism can learn these skills, they just need a bit more help.
