This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an innovation school. This means that our school has been given a chance to provide even more meaningful opportunities to the students in our boundaries. Students at my school receive free and reduced lunch. I am the school Social Worker.
I provide a variety of services to the students and families of our building.
I teach students about good hygiene practices. I talk with them about how to control and verbalize their emotions. I also work with students that struggle with social skills. Our school is also a Project Restore School. Each week students take academic tests that assess different skills. All assessments are cumulative and rigorous, which means skills can not be forgotten and are always practiced.
My Project
Not having the basic clothing essentials is something our students deal with on a regular basis. Many students don't have clean clothes when they come to school. This can cause students to be bullied and even make some students not want to come to school. Our school has a washing machine and a dryer in which we can wash clothes for our students while they are at school.
Accidents happen and sometimes students just need a new set of clothes to feel comfortable in.
Right now, our closet is very unorganized and it can take some time to find clothes for a student. This keeps them from learning in their classrooms. Having shelves, a clothing rack with hangers, and storage bins can help me find the right clothes for each child.
