My Students

I teach 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies, and 6th-8th grade Reading Intervention. The students who share my classroom range from the highest-achieving to those most in need of inspiration in order to discover the love of reading and increase their achievements. They are spirited and culturally diverse middle schoolers, with equally-diverse learning needs. My students have big ideas, are eager learners, and have ambitious goals for their future, and I am passionate about my quest to help them meet those goals!

Critical readers are critical thinkers--in a rigorous environment where students are challenged to engage, question, and think with passion, students are preparing for life.

There is nothing better than the bright-eyed moment where a student's fire is lit through learning and through a goal achieved. I strive to coach them towards my students towards their individual goals so they can feel this pride in their learning and grow to be complex thinkers. My students move around the room to engage and collaborate in group conversations, work in partners, and find spaces and places to read. It is vital for me to be prepared and organized so that I can facilitate the best possible learning environment.

My Project

In order to coach students towards their individual goals in reading and writing, I need to be prepared to work with them in small groups and individually. I have been in need of a small bookshelf where I can house assessment and small group-work materials so I can access these with ease. The bookshelf I have selected matches the measurements I need to fit the area next to my group-work table. I have 43 minutes a day to make a lasting impact on students and cannot afford to lose minutes running around the room to gather materials. So, with that in mind, one could say, this bookshelf will make a lasting impact on my students' lives. Every minute counts for readers and writers!

If teachers are changing the world one student at a time, a contribution to this bookshelf will make a difference in the world--it will help me to grow confident readers and complex thinkers.
