Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students come from families that battle with the struggles of poverty, trauma, living in the shelter system or projects. My students are predominantly Hispanic or black. In addition to their personal struggles outside of school, each of my students has a learning disability and has had many failures in their short educational careers before entering my classroom.

In a diverse community, resources are often limited and teachers must dip in their own pockets to ensure students receive a high quality education they are entitled too.

The vast majority of students in the school qualify for free and reduced lunch.

This year, one of my goals is to construct an organized classroom that builds student autonomy and independence. Having flexible seating and clear organizational systems is one way to meet this goal.

My Project

Who doesn't love a space that is clean, visually appealing, and organized? The supplies in this project will ensure that our post-COVID classroom once again has a warm cozy feeling. The various charts will help us optimize learning time to display groupings. The book baggies will ensure that students can have individual books during independent reading. The teacher tote will help me stay organized when conducting individual conferences or small groups to move students improve student performance.

The classroom should feel like the student's home!

Students feel pride and ownership in their classroom when their name is frequently displayed; the space is vibrant and organized. Each year I strive to make my classroom an inclusive environment where everyone feels seen and welcome!
