My students need a front-facing bookshelf and new book bins to make choosing books a more enjoyable and simple activity!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty area, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Every child in our school receives free or reduced lunch, and a large percentage of students are considered homeless. Despite this, my students are excited be part of a learning community where they feel safe and cared for.
Our classroom is an area where students are encouraged to work hard, collaborate with one another, and communicate clearly.
I encourage learning through exploration and value the intrinsic curiosity of my students.
My students need a front facing bookshelf! This bookshelf will display books that are related to topics we are exploring in our classroom, as well as, books students will find engaging and enjoyable. Students will be able to quickly locate books that pique their interests by viewing the front covers of the books. This is currently not possible with the bookshelves in our classroom. Being able to locate these books quickly and with more accuracy will allow my students more time to read the books they love!
In kindergarten, students are working hard to learn fundamental reading skills and strategies to make them life-long learners!
They must practice these skills daily, choosing books that are an appropriate level. By providing book bins for my classroom, I will be able to organize our books specifically by level! Students will be able choose books at a level that will push their skills and knowledge even further!
