Help me give my students have a organized classroom, motivational presentations and supplies to start the school year. The gift card will be used to purchase online membership to Delta math.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in 8th grade and attend an older Title 1 public middle school in Southern California. Title 1 schools are in areas with low socioeconomic areas and receive federal funding so all its students receive free or reduced lunch. We also service several homeless students in our area. Many of our students do not enjoy math when they come into our 8th-grade classes. They have many outside factors that distract their learning. After teaching online it will be a challenge to engage students and motivate them to learn in person. When we enter the classroom it is in an older building and organization is always a challenge.
Our student body is very diverse and supports a variety of cultures and languages.
Students in my class range from gifted and talented to students with learning disabilities, and everything in between. This project will help with the large number of students I am teaching. My ultimate goal is to improve organization and motivation of my students though a colorful and interactive environment, and provide needed supplies to teach in person.
My Project
To organize the classroom the bins, will help with school supplies used by the students daily in their groups. The cords, hooks, pencil sharpener, and marker organizer will help prepare the classroom for instruction. The markers, pens, and other supplies will help make sure the lessons have color and motivate students to engage in the lesson.
Motivation and engagement in the content is key to retention of mathematics.
The gift card will be used to buy a tapestry to cover the old shelves in my room to add to the appearance to make the room more inviting. The teachers pay teachers gift card will also me too see out hands on lessons to make the math more meaningful and engaging.
These items will help my students hopefully have a more positive encounter with mathematics, which will result in retention of the content.
