My students need a Leveled Reader System and Big Book stand to encourage their explorations of reading. The students need name plates that include visual learning tools.
I teach a lively group of first graders who are at the beginning stages of developing reading skills. The students are excited to get books in their hands and love to show others that they are great readers. I would like for my students to leave first grade as a confident reader!
I teach first graders and they are a lively group.
The community that the school resides is in a very low socioeconomic area. The school district does the best it can, but there is severe lack of materials and resources. Nonetheless the students enjoy their school days. They enjoy a variety of differentiated lessons. We will read exciting stories and practice reading to one another. We play learning games for math to practice using strategies learned. In Science and Social Studies we conduct experiments and learn how science is used in every day life all the while using our social skills to work together. These students deserve the best education possible and I hope to be creative in finding ways to make this happen.
My Project
The students will use the Leveled Reader System as an easier means of selecting text to be read. It is more beneficial for a student to read a text on their reading level so that comprehension is gained through the reading. The Leveled Reader system is an organized way of categorizing books to the exact level of reading. As the teacher I will better be able to keep track of students reading progress as they move through the varying levels of reading materials.
The big book holder will allow students to better benefit from the big books themselves. The books will be easier displayed and better for little hands to get a hold on. The students benefit from the use of big books because they are engaging allowing all to participate. Reading big books expands vocabulary and builds confidence and self-esteem.
The name plates requested will be used as a learning tool for students that is easily accessible. The name plates include a 100 Chart and shapes for learning math and the alphabet.
Donations to this project would help my classroom by allowing a more organized means for students to access reading materials.
The more students are able to get literature into their hands the more confident they become as readers. I have very high expectations of my students and would love to see each and everyone of them become proficient readers!
