Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Located in Mesa, AZ, our elementary serves a small Title 1 community that is rich in culture. We are an A+ AVID school, with writing for learning being the cornerstone of our learning process.
Daily we engage in learning activities that support a rich reading and writing curriculum with strong ties into science and social studies.
These amazing learners read, write, question, collaborate and organize materials and thoughts with the use of WICOR AVID strategies and Thinking Maps to reach deeper levels of knowledge.
My Project
Our AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students engage in activities that use organizational techniques to deepen their learning and develop successful student skills. I am asking for a classroom set of binders, subject dividers and pencil pouches.
The supplies requested will be used as organizational tools to develop executive function skills such as planning, time management, setting goals, sorting and categorizing academic notes and resources in a meaningful and deliberate manner.
The focus is on developing life long learning strategies for an amazing group of 30, 4th grade students organized by allowing access to their basic learning tools in one complete AVID binder. The students will use the color coded dividers to sort and order learning resources by subject areas: reading, writing, math, science, social studies, AVID strategies and social emotional development strategies. The pouches support quick and efficient movement throughout the day, from group work to the reading and STEM lab with the necessary tools for success.
