Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Organize your life around your dreams - and watch them come true.”
This is a quote that hangs above my whiteboard to remind my high school students that their education is the key to realizing their future dreams.
As a special education teacher, I am always working hard to ensure the success of my special needs students in their general education classes. This year, I am responsible for assisting 30 special needs students who have been mainstreamed into regular 9th and 10th grade classes. With one semester behind us, I am pleased to say that there have been many successes along the way.
Unfortunately, we are still struggling to tackle one major challenge: ORGANIZATION.
As a school located in a low-income community, many parents cannot afford to provide their children with the necessary school supplies. As a result, my special needs students are struggling to keep track of all the papers they receive from their six classes. Although they are using pocket folders to keep the work separated, it is an ongoing challenge to keep things in chronological order without a binder.
A 3-ring binder will allow my students to organize their materials for all of their classes. They will be able to locate class notes quickly and efficiently. My students will be able to file away old quizzes and tests so that they can easily be referenced during final exam time. Most importantly, my students will be able to practice and hone their organization skills so that they are prepared to do so once they reach college!
Your generosity can make a difference in the lives and futures of my 30 special needs students. You will make it possible for my students to truly begin organizing their life so that their dreams of college can be realized.
