I grew up playing board games with my Nana. I learned how to wait for my turn and lose gracefully after several defeats. It was a hard lesson to learn but it made me a more strategic player, or at least determined to put forth my best effort. It was more rewarding when I won fair and square.
My second grade students consist of 13 girls and 16 boys who are light-hearted, compassionate, eager to please and strive to be and do their best everyday in all subjects.
We are a Title 1 school with limited resources, yet we've continued to overcome the challenges by being more creative and resourceful.
The game will promote high student engagement which will help them understand the rules of play and the importance of being part of team, taking directions from others and waiting for their turn. With the use of Skillastic, students will learn 26 fitness drills cover four fitness components: flexibility, cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, muscle strength, and muscle endurance. The game is perfect for my large class and indoor recess! I'm also asking for the Half-pint Skillastic to share with our pr-eK and Kindergarten students during their recess time for extra fitness activity or during their gym time. They will be able to practice rolling the die in the game and going over to the area where the cards are and picking up that particular colored card. This is an excellent activity for color or shape recognition as well as moving to pick up the card. This will help them understand the rules of play.
During indoor recess, my students often play board games however I find they're impatient and do not like to wait their turn.
In addition, we need to work on sportsmanship. The Skillastic resources will make a difference in my classroom and during gym resource class because our students will learn how to take turns, work as a team to complete assigned task and the importance of staying focused on the assigned team leader rather than being distracted.
