This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember when you found that first book you could not put down?
My students love to read.
When I choose a new book to read aloud to them, they will go to the library and find the same book or one in the same series. Our school is an urban school district with all different economic backgrounds. I have requested books ranging from kindergarten up to fourth grade to meet the different needs of my second graders.
My Project
We currently have a bookshelf that houses all of our books. Unfortunately, our books are not organized by level so my students tend to take out books that are either too easy or too challenging. Having a bookshelf with bins to store our books by level will help the students chooses book on their reading level.
The donations towards this request will help my students continue to develop their love of reading which will only help them as they continue their education down the road.
As of now, they love to read but with the difficulty of locating a "just right" book that they can read independently, it discourages them from finding the correct level book and they just grab whatever is there.
More than half of students from low‑income households
