My students need hooks to place their backpacks on during the school day and bins to be able to use the class library effectively.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever had to go through third grade with a broke first-year teacher? My students have to deal with both the inexperience and lack of supplies every single day.
I have eighteen bright and energetic third graders.
They love to learn and they love to express their learning through collaborative and social activities. My students attend a low income, high need, school in California which serves a large Hispanic and African American community.
My Project
Backpacks are both a great source of pleasure and distraction within the classroom. While students love having their backpacks with them, constant access to them can be a great source of disruption in the classroom. As a result I ask that my students place their backpacks in the back of the classroom. Our current problem is that these backpacks have no place to go other than on the floor or precariously balanced on top of a small table. Through the acquisition of twenty-four adhesive hooks, students would have a place to put their beloved backpacks that doesn't result in a slipping hazard and nullifies the change of injury due to a backpack avalanche.
Having six, small plastic tubs would also improve my students ability to access books that are not only at their reading level but also readily accessible. Currently students must sort through a large unorganized book shelf to find a book to read. This is not only time consuming, but also extremely messy.
Having a hook to place their backpack on would not only help keep our classroom neat and tidy it would also increase my student's feeling of ownership in the classroom as they would have a place that belongs to them and their belongings.
The addition of six plastic tubs and the organizational power they possess will open a world of reading to my students that is currently blocked due to the time consuming task of sorting through so many books.
