My Students
My Brooklyn, NY students light up the room with their smiles and they plant perseverance and gratitude in others’ hearts.
My students have multiple and severe disabilities, and they love to discover and learn.
Our 3rd-8th graders experience vocational programs once to twice per week during the school day and during the four-day afterschool program each week. Our vocational classrooms are thriving hubs of exploration, laughter, and learning daily. We offer training in various store, custodial, and office work positions. This year, we have added a second classroom. We are expanding our vocational offerings to include hydroponics, which will supply our cooking program. We are so excited! Vocational education supports our core academic, theater, dance, and photography programs. Vocational seeks to give our students the foundations and tools they need to become more autonomous and independent in high school and adulthood.
My Project
These trays, pocket charts, display stands, and other organizational tools will make the new vocational classroom more organized so that students can easily find what they need as they learn the skills needed for work and life. The tools will help us establish routines and increase efficiency as students move between centers and engaging learning activities.
By making the classroom more organized and highly visual, students will also be more exposed to activity choices and will be able to demonstrate their interests by self-selecting the jobs they want to do.
