Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In a STEM magnet school, my students are bused in from locations all over the city. Many of my students catch the school bus before their peers would even imagine waking up. They do this to be part of the unique opportunity offered at my school. My students know that the great education they receive is their first step toward changing the world they live in.
Minority students from all measured groups at my school score proficient at a rate more than 50% above the state average in English, more than 40% above in math, and more than 40% above in science.
My school provides an opportunity for students with an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to engage in two years of rigorous coursework exploring STEM. Before you think my school is one set aside for the "privileged", please know that my campus is classified as a highest poverty school. It is not a school for the privileged, but it is a school for the dedicated. My school is a school for students who are willing to work for something more, and shatter the achievement gap.
My Project
Many of my students come from chaotic environments. It is my goal to model good organization habits that they can use as they advance in their education and future careers. Developing good organization habits as middle school students will serve my students for the rest of their lives.
Organized environments help increase efficiency and reduce both accidents and stress levels.
Please consider helping fund this project so I can have the storage bins and labeling equipment that I need to better organize my classroom. This project might not be flashy, but this project will have long term benefits for years to come.
