This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, my co-teacher and I are looping up with our students from Kindergarten to First Grade. Last year, our students were exposed to a very organized and structured classroom environment, in which they thrived. This year, using these requested materials will help us keep our classroom organized.

Our classroom is an Integrated Co-Teaching, or inclusion, class that consists of 12-13 special education students and 17-18 general education students.

There are two teachers in this classroom; my co-teacher (the general education teacher) and, myself (the special education teacher). Our school is located in a low-income area of the Bronx, so unfortunately, resources and materials are scarce. Parents are unable to help pay for these materials and the teachers only get reimbursed $57 for materials such as these. The students in our class are kind-hearted, compassionate, eager, motivated, funny and smart.

My Project

Our students have benefited from a very bright, structured and organized environment in the past. Having these materials available, labeled, color-coded, and neat helps the students understand what things are used for, where they are located, how and when to use them. Students will use their name tags to learn their assigned sit, along with how to spell the names of their peers. They will use the colored bins to hold their Homework folders, Reading folders, Writing folders, and Math folders in a particular area of the room. Some students will have to sit at the end of a 4 student desk and use their chair sacks to hold their books. The 3 ring pencil cases will be used everyday inside their homework folders, as well as their "Rise & Shine Binder" for morning work to hold their manipulative's and dry erase markers. The orange plastic 3 hole folders will be used as their uniform "Homework Folders". These materials will help keep our class and students organized to help them succeed!

We would love to provide these students with the materials that we know will help them to succeed in school.

Being able to teach them organization and structure at such a young age is important to us. These are also concepts that will be beneficial to them in the future, such as; helping to get them college and career ready.
