Organization Solutions for Student Success

Help me give my students an organized learning environment that facilitates student independence!

My Students

Our classroom community is made up of a diverse group of incoming kindergarten students who vary in ethnicity, home language, socioeconomic status and learning style. Developmentally, kindergarten is an exciting mix of interests, abilities, and goals. As we learn to read, write, and count, we love to learn with one another and from one another.

As teachers, we are committed to creating an equitable learning environment in which ALL children can grow academically and socially.

Beginning this school year still within the throes of a pandemic provides new challenges and opportunities. We are meeting students' unique and diverse needs by providing high quality, engaging opportunities for learning.

My Project

The arrangement of a classroom environment has a significant impact on how students learn within the space. An organized, accessible, clear layout can amplify student learning and independence while a disorganized space with materials inaccessible to students can hinder student self-efficacy and create unnecessary obstacles to learning.

Fostering student independence is a major priority in kindergarten and the materials in this project will allow students to navigate the classroom seamlessly and effectively.

The mobile media cart will hold the classroom projector, allowing for accessible storage of relevant teaching materials, and will support flexibility of the classroom space as the wheels allow it to be moved with ease. The "Home to School" organizer will allow readers to not only see which books they've selected, but organize their reading plan into books they've read and books they have yet to read. The paper organizer will support students in accessing materials for art projects and the clothesline will provide another space for student work to be displayed in our classroom.

This year I will be moving to a new (to me) classroom space to teach kindergarten. A new classroom presents unique challenges and these materials help our whole classroom community start the year off right. These materials will help our youngest learners gain independence academically and social-emotionally which will lead to lifelong love of learning and success as future scholars.
