My Students
My students are 43 eager, energetic, and loving 1st graders who are enrolled in one of Delaware's dual language schools. Students alternate between taking classes one day in English and another day in Spanish throughout the week. 99% of the students at my school come from low income homes where all students receive free school lunch. Regardless of our population's struggles, our school maintains a desire and mission to create bi-literate and bilingual learners of our future.
The majority of students are ELL who are still ecstatic to learn and become the bi-literate and bilingual scholars.Whenever presented a challenge, my students are tackling it full force giving it their all.
Students encourage each other to never give up and do their best even when they feel discouraged. Our school seeks to show the potential of our student population with what they bring to our classrooms. Our jobs as teachers to be live and breath the UNIDOS (united) mission.
My Project
Having a classroom mailbox will help us keep our classwork, homework, letters home, folders, and binders in an organized manner. Since desks in our classroom do not have any parts to store class materials, we could keep most of our work in our mailboxes. Each student is assigned a number, so they can check their numbered compartment within their mailbox to check for homework and paperwork going home.
The mailboxes can help teach responsibility to students who must be aware of their incoming and outgoing mail on daily basis.
Students will learn to check and be responsible for what goes in and out of their mailbox. They are also learning to organize their work instead of keeping it thrown in their books and rather placing them in the mailboxes for teachers to check and give back. Having a mailbox will allow me to quickly place work and letters going home daily. Instead of opening up book bags and hunting for work and folders, I can check on my responsible students' mailbox slot.
