I have the pleasure of teaching a very special group of second grade students. These students live in an under-served community on the south side of Chicago. I teach two departmentalized math and science classes with a total of fifty students. They are eager to learn and full of curiosity.
Many of these students have faced adversities early in life that most people haven't had to deal with in their entire lives.
They keep a smile on their face and work hard to achieve their goals.
Each student is full of life and exploding with character. They love to talk, explore, and push boundaries!
At an early age it is important the students are exposed to multiple types of learning. We use many different manipulatives daily to supplement learning. This gives the students the opportunity to learn by observation, exploration, and experimentation. Students can manipulate hands-on materials to further their understand of different standards, objectives, and problems. With so many manipulatives we need a perfect place to store these to avoid any loss of important academic learning during transitions when using them. The storage shelves will be perfect to use at each table to store them. The desktop drawers will be used to hold iPads they will be using to access Compass Learning, Quick Math, and IXL curriculum. The more organization we have within the classroom the less time is wasted during transition and academic learning time is maximized. Organization and flow within a classroom is key to increasing learning time.
