My Students

My primary (K-4) class of diverse learners and English as a Second Lanuguage learners are very hard workers. They have to be. I have high expectations for them and they learn in my classroom to have high expectations of themselves. They in turn then have high expectations of me. It's a full circle of each of us making one another better throughout the school year.

I strive to give my students the best experiences.

I teach resource special education and ESL where I pull my students out of their regular classroom to receive specialized services according to their needs and goals. I work closely with their general education classroom teachers, to make sure that they are getting what they need to succeed in their classrooms.

My students live in a large urban area. We are a Title I school with a 95% poverty rate. Funding is tighter than I've ever seen it in my twenty-seven years as a classroom teacher. The school tries hard to provide the teachers with what they need, but it is very difficult to provide even the basics let alone the bigger items that we need to be successful.

My Project

My students are individuals and many come to me without the organizational skills to be successful in the classroom and in life. Many of these items will help them to learn how important it is to stay organized and on top of their lessons, assignments and commitments. Having binders and dividers will help them to keep track of their different assignments and the color paper will also help to keep things organized as the colors will be a visual for them. Basic items such as paper, pens and composition books will also help start to understand the importance of being organized.
