This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a high poverty school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch! I have high expectations that they will grow and learn beyond what is expected. We are learning skills such as robotics, coding, and typing along with our curriculum. School is a safe and happy place for my students. Each day, they come into the classroom excited about the day and spending time exploring and learning together. For many of my students, being at school is the best part of their day.
My Project
My students walk into my classroom every day ready to learn math and are very excited for what is in store for them for that day. In my classroom we would like to keep a math journal in composition notebooks. With a math journal my students can take math notes to help them with their classwork. In the journal the students may add illustrations to help understand a topic. My students also need colored pencils and pens to be able to underline important information. The different colors will allow the more important information to stand out on the page.
Having students take notes in a composition book and be able to pick out what is an important is a life skill I believe they need to learn.
Having the materials on hand for them to achieve this would be wonderful!
