My students need help learning organization, so we need lots of storage options to help organize our curriculum and materials. This will help create a more clutter-free and positive example of organization for my class!
I work in a very low-income school, with over 70% of students being from low-income families. These students usually need some extra love and support from their teachers and other adults in their lives. I chose to come work at this school, because I know that these students need me more than students in higher income areas who have more supports outside of school.
I am now finishing up my second year of teaching here, and although these students do bring some significant struggles, I couldn't be happier to be where I am, and all that I learn from these kiddos on a daily basis!
I am currently implementing flexible seating in my classroom, and I do my best to make sure my lessons are engaging and informational. I am constantly trying to better myself and my lessons to help my students. I love trying new strategies and new technology in my classroom, and my students love it too!
My Project
I am only in my second year of teaching, so I am still learning a lot! My biggest struggle professionally is staying organized, which makes it hard for me to be able to teach my students about staying organized as well. I recently went to a PD about self-regulation, and how important it is for students to learn to be confident and organized, in order to be successful in any grade level and in college!
This project will help me get everything I need to get my own teaching materials and paperwork organized, so I can set a good example for my students and focus my energy on helping them learn organization.
The Iris project cases will help organize all the materials for each lesson into one easy-to-grab location. The Iris hanging file boxes will replace the filing cabinets in my room so my students can have more space and I can be more picky about what actually needs to be filed. The 3 drawer organizers will be labeled so students can know where to turn in each of their assignments for every subject. The folders will help organize papers for the week, as well as become mailbox folders and portfolios for my students. The laptop cart will give me the opportunity to turn my laptop in any direction, or raise it to a standing height for easy access. I want to teach my class organization by setting an amazing example of being more organized myself.
