This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a bright bunch, that are hungry for knowledge. They come to class with questions and real-life connections to the work that we do. It is so awesome to see them grow in the content of English language arts. I am excited about this year, as it will be a group of new faces. We will have a chance to start new and exciting projects around reading and writing.
My students deserve nothing but the best.
I want them to know that all facets of the work and classroom environment are to benefit their future. In high need schools, it can be difficult trying to supply everything on your own dime. In addition, the need may go above and beyond your ability. I know my children will have bright futures. They see beyond their current status, which gives me a strong sense of confidence in them.
My Project
My students successfully completed their first project-based learning showcase. It was unfortunate that we had limited supplies throughout the process. I would like to establish materials such as pens and folders for the work. They will use the organizer to make a fluid working space. The folders are important to curate the work as they complete the project. Papers easily get misplaced, but having a space for everything will teach them responsibility. The crate and the tray for folders will assist with that.
I do not want the opportunity gap to live in my classroom.
Though the projects cover content. Having adequate materials allows students to fully experience being creative. They may not recognize the items they need; however, I am sure with ease of access to materials they will know how much better their presentations will be in the spring. Students work independently on these projects with little guidance from the teacher. I would like to see them able to take it a step further to facilitate and design the presentation for their project with the right materials. They use the chart paper frequently during lessons to share group thinking through gallery walks or parking lots.
