My 2nd grade students are full of curiosity, excitement and effort. They are on the verge of independence and with a little help, they will get there! In my classroom, the children are excited to try things on their own, as well as work at their own pace.
With learners at every level, including Title I and English Language learners, keeping things simple and consistent is a must in order to foster independence.
Our classroom is set up like a community, with each of us working to help one another. We work on routines from day one, in order to maximize our learning time during the year.
My Project
Organization is key in a flexible seating classroom. The children need to be able to store their materials as well as transport them to various working spots around the classroom. The drawer cart will house both literacy and math centers. Because the drawers are removable, the students will be able to take the drawer that houses the materials they need, find a quiet spot in the room, and get to work. This will save time, as the materials will all be located in one spot and easy to find, and it will also save space in the classroom because all of the center activities will be located in one spot.
The individual bins will allow my classroom to become a true flexible seating classroom.
Each student will have his or her own bin and will easily be able to transport all of their materials to the spot in the classroom where they choose to work for the day. The bins are durable and sturdy, two musts in a 2nd grade classroom.
The clear, plastic bins will be used for math games. All materials needed for the game will be housed in the container. This will be very helpful for students playing games during guided math, as well as for parent volunteers. They can simply grab a plastic bin and go play!
If you donate to this project, you will be giving my students the opportunity to learn how to effectively keep themselves organized, as well as enjoy their flexible seating classroom to the max.
