Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is made up of immigrants from different Hispanic heritages. We are considered a Title 1 school because our parents are considered low-income. I feel my students are special because many of them come here for the first time to live in a land of opportunity. For many of my students coming to America is a life long dream of their parents and will bring them a brighter future.
As their music teacher I try to bring culture and musical exploration to their lives.
I teach music from all over the world and would love to purchase instruments that they would be able to create beautiful music with. I have an after school chorus club that sings all over Miami-Dade County. The chorus goes annually to a local Nursing home to sing winter holiday music for the geriatric residents. At AES we love to create beautiful music to share with others.
Also, we are a center for special education students, many of the students are in wheel chairs. These students, no matter their limitations, love to create music and would benefit from new musical instruments to use in their music classroom.
My Project
I would love to bring ORFF barred instruments to my school. I have waited for the past 10 years to create an ORFF Ensemble, but my school could never afford to purchase these special instruments. Recently, I was certified as an ORFF Level 1 teacher and now I strive more than ever to bring ORFF instruments to my school. Having an ORFF ensemble for my students would be an amazing experience for them. All I want is the best for my music students and for them to experience creating beautiful music. My students love to perform and if we were able to gain these ORFF instruments it would mean the world to my kids.
