My Students

Ever compete in a competition? At our school we love to encourage our students to compete in the Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)! This is a competition of team work, knowledge and a love of reading!

My students are a wonderful group of kids.

We live in a small rural town in Oregon that has a lot of poverty. Most of my students come from low income families, and this can really impact their learning at times. Though school may be really tough for some of my students, I have yet to meet a student who didn't want to learn. These kids want to learn and it is my job to help them do just that. In our class we work hard and it shows. The students love to show off what they know and they are in love with getting the results they work so hard for!

My Project

These books are from this year's Oregon Battle of the Books competition. We don't always have enough copies of these books for the students who want to participate in this competition and this set will make that happen. In our school our students will form teams to compete. They will use these books to get ready for the reading competition. In our class we will also use these books for read aloud, so that all students may enjoy them even if they choose not to participate in OBOB. This list of books has a variety of genres which will also help students enjoy books they may not initially choose. These books will promote a love of learning and reading in my class and our school!

The donations toward this project will make participating OBOB much easier for our students.

Many times we are scrambling to get these books for our students, but this funded project will not let that happen. We are excited to have these books readily available for all our students who want to participate in this competition. All students, whether they are in the competition or not, will be able to enjoy all of these fabulous books!
