This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The supplies and materials that I'm requesting include "the basics" - pencils, highlighters, a mountable-white board, hole puncher, etc. Most take these supplies for granted not realizing how important they are to student success. My goal is to set my students up for success by providing them with these essentials.

Highlighters are a must for my 6th-graders who are learning how to find text evidence to support a claim.

A hole puncher is essential in teaching students how to keep an organized binder instead of having papers strewn all about and crunched up at the bottom of backpacks. The mountable white board will be used to post things as academic/content vocabulary, homework, standards we are learning, and student exemplars.

Having these basic tools, which are often hard to come by at Title 1 schools, promote student engagement and participation as students come to class prepared to take notes, interact with the text, color code materials, etc. Students also gain a sense of independence when they have the materials needed to learn. Time isn't wasted looking for a pencil or rummaging through backpacks for papers. All of these "ordinary" supplies promote self-reliance and confidence as students come to class prepared and ready to learn...setting the foundation for "extraordinary" students who will know how to be successful in any classroom!
