My Students
Look on your refrigerator door: would you rather see a pen-and-pencil test or a beautiful, creative, and well-crafted project from your child? I am working to create a more project-based learning environment for my students in order to bring their Spanish skills to real world situations.
My students are predominantly black, high-poverty teenagers attending a large comprehensive public high school.
I teach mostly freshmen, which allows your donation to help adjust my students to the demands and rigor of a college preparatory Spanish course. Most of our students dream of post-secondary education, but they also require significant additional supports and resources to ensure they get there and are well-prepared.
My Project
With these basic supplies, my students will be able to use their Spanish skills in more authentic assessments that just tests and quizzes. They will be able to use their language skills in real world situations, such as creating public service announcements for safe driving habits or designing and describing their dream home. The supplies I am requesting include basic art supplies such as cardstock, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, and colored pencils. I am also requesting supporting materials to help them increase their vocabulary prior to the project, such as dry erase markers (I have invested in individual white boards) and ink cartridges (my school does not have a color printer).
By supplying some of the basic resources necessary to complete these projects, you will be empowering my students to test the boundaries of their Spanish proficiency and perseverance to see a project through from planning to polishing.
Project-based learning brings a boost in confidence and engagement that my students need and deserve. Your support is truly priceless.
