My Students
Students arrive in my classroom and immediately prepare themselves to start playing their instruments. In order for them to succeed in the years to come, they need to be comfortable with their instruments and set up with exceptional posture.
I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at school that is very diverse.
Many of the students can obtain their own instruments and supplies. However, a large number of students rely on me to supply these things for them. These students understand that through music, I am giving them an education that they could see all the way through college. For many of these students, being in orchestra is not just fun, but a way for them to separate themselves from the general population of students at our school.
My Project
I am asking for a large number of shoulder rests for my violins and violas. Currently, we are using sponges that are cheap and poor quality. These shoulder rests will develop good posture and give them an opportunity to play their best. We will use these shoulder rests everyday in class, as well as at home practicing. The strings and rosin will be used everyday in class as well.
I find that there are a number of students that arrive at my classroom and cannot hold the instruments correctly due to the poor quality of what I have to work with.
I feel the students will have more of a sense of ownership if I am able to provide them with quality shoulder rests, strings and rosin.
