This week, we used our new materials to set up interactive math stations. Students rotated through activities that let them see, touch, and experiment with proportional relationships — from building visual models to creating graphs that told a story. It turned math from \"something we have to do\" into \"something we get to do.\"\r\nStudent reactions:\r\nWhen I brought out the new materials, their faces said it all. One student's eyes lit up and they asked, \"We actually get to use this today?!\" Another shared, \"It's like a puzzle now, not just numbers.\" I wish you could have been in the room to see the excitement and confidence growing in real time.\r\n\r\nNext steps:\r\nNext, we'll dive into linear relationships. Students will be using these tools to create and interpret their own graphs based on real-world scenarios. At the end, they'll host a \"Function Fair\" where they teach their peers about slope, intercepts, and patterns — becoming the teachers themselves.\r\n\r\nYou didn't just give us supplies; you gave my students the opportunity to learn in a way that sparks curiosity and builds confidence. For that, I am endlessly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1692998512253,"projectUrl":"project/help-first-year-teacher/7692326/","projectTitle":"Help First Year Teacher!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Prado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9194358_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692285367898","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/pradoroom205"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2758","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":530,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":57,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.9,"schoolId":2758,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Melvin C Swann Junior Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Melvin C Swann Junior Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/guilford-county-schools/aycock-middle-school/2758"}
