My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, to write, to build and to read. As the ELD teacher for kinder and 1st grade, I spend my time pushing in to classrooms to teach English language learners.
My students come from an impoverished background, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
Our project asks for light covers to help with the harsh light the flourescents put out. We also need quiet activities for fast finishers. These puzzles are well liked and used often, I just haven't had any variety to offer. The students need new ones that tie to various themes we are teaching. They really enjoy finding books and puzzles to work with when they are done with a task. The novelty of new items also adds to their excitement and they gain such great problem solving skills when working puzzles. They often work cooperatively and keep a quiet focus.
