My Students
Do you remember the thrill of discovery and the magic that happens inside a lab environment or outside in the world? I teach Physics and I try to instill my lessons with wonder and excitement. From day one in my class, I introduce mysteries of the universe that we can explore in and out of class.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
There are really low income students without the means to have their own technology devices all the way up to highly affluent students. The common denominator is that I am trying to evoke a sense of awe and reverence for science discovery in my class and labs.
My Project
My students will be able to learn of optics through Fresnel lenses. They can create art in Physics class by using the lenses to harness the power of the sun for burning patterns into wood. They can learn of rotational motion and angular momentum from the gyroscopes. The light bulbs and resistors will replenish lab materials that get used up throughout the year. The fire syringe demonstrates an adiabatic thermodynamic process by compressing a small piece of a cotton ball past its flash point so it catches fire. I also teach two different AP Physics classes that can benefit from the various practice tests and problems in the review books.
This project will allow my students to better master some of the harder to understand topics from physics such as optics, electricity, thermodynamics and rotational motion.
