My Students
I am proud to teach 9th and 12th grade English at my high school alma mater. This has been a true full-circle moment for me as I give back to the community that has shaped the woman and educator that I have become.
The majority of my students come from low-income households but that does not diminish their capacity for greatness.
Our school is well-known for its athleticism, creativity, and academics. Although we are located in the heart of the inner city, we are truly an unstoppaBULL community, and each year our students consistently overcome the odds and rise above expectations.
My goal as an educator is to ensure that I am able to foster and develop the flame within each of them as they embark on this new journey and prepare for adulthood. My classroom is their gateway to deeper knowledge, greater understanding, and a more fulfilled life!
My Project
All of our children want their voices to be heard. Unfortunately, the teenage years are usually the most difficult. It is also the time when they feel the least heard. To help combat this issue, I have created the Fearless Voices Poetry Club at my high school. Since I was a poet long before I was an educator, I am very passionate about this journey and excited to share in this moment of self-expression with the students. Many students expressed interest in being a part of the poetry club this upcoming school year and can you blame them? There is just so much to be said!
This printer would allow poetry club members to not only have their voices be heard but to see their words in print!
By donating to our project, you will help our students get the opportunity to express themselves and enhance their literacy through writing and reading poetry. You will also help them become published poets as we share their words with our school through newsletters and personalized poetry anthologies, as well as through poetry submissions via alternate sources.
