Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school encourages students to go on the adventure of learning. Every child has their own special talents, and strengths; but may never have the opportunity to explore or showcase them. These students deserve to explore their talents and capabilities.
More than 90% of them are on the free/reduced price lunch program and are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
Our enrichment classes serve as a outlet for these students. Our Rock Band is open to the entire 3-5th grade population of our school. It is currently taught by myself, the principal, and an office team member. Just like with the students, we encourage our staff to explore their interests and talents as well.
Our students work hard and have had very successful performances. Their families love to see them on stage. We want to continue to inspire the next musicians of the world, or at least give the opportunity to explore the possibilities.
My Project
Our Rock Band has been in place for three years now. Students are eager to be of age to join the band. We currently have our largest group of students participating, so many that we had to split up our classes in order to serve everyone.
Student deserve to have access to these enrichment classes and materials.
These items in the cart will allow for our classes to continue with everyone having their own instrument.
Latin Jazz is a new venture for us, so there are some new instruments to invest in. These students see these instruments when they go to parties or to events, and it would be great to have them be able to learn how to play them. Each student will have the opportunity to learn a new instrument and find something that suits their interest. Our goal is to be able to perform at our annual Talent Show at the end of the year and at our End of the Year Carnival. We need to keep the arts alive in our schools as much as possible.
