Help me give my students a place to build social skills and positive peer relationships in a controlled and structured environment during their lunch recess.
The students in my school come from diverse backgrounds. A large percentage of my students come from low- income families and have many financial problems.
As a School Counselor my role is to assist students and families as a whole, working with students to increase their ability to emotionally self-regulate, problem solve, and sustain healthy relationships through building confidence and self-esteem.
At our elementary school, our goal is not only to instill academic knowledge in our students, but to foster within them social and relationship skills that they can carry with them throughout their lives. Many students at our school speak dual languages and come from diverse backgrounds leading to great discussions of inclusion and respect.

My Project
Operation Clubhouse is a program that I am starting at my Elementary school as the School Counselor where our library will be utilized as a "clubhouse" for students.
During a grade level lunch recess, students who may struggle to find or make positive friendships will be invited to join other peers of their grade level in the library for games.
During this time, students will be guided by the counselor and other support staff as to how to build and maintain positive peer relationships through building, problem solving and playing board games and other structured activities.
Through the use of Clubhouse, students will have an increased opportunity to build and establish positive social relationships, as well as positive social skills, better preparing them for the future transition into adolescents.
