This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic 7 and 8-year-olds who are excited about learning. They love to read and write and engage in conversation with their peers. They are eager to read both literature and nonfiction and write about what they’ve read. Many of my students began elementary school without foundational reading skills, but they have been working hard to attain grade level standards. Most of my students are second language learners. Reading in the classroom is essential to their continued success!
My Project
My students need access to nonfiction reading materials to deepen their background knowledge and become 21st century learners. In order to attain higher level thinking skills and make sense of world events, my students need multiple experiences with nonfiction reading materials. Our nonfiction library is very limited and my students would benefit greatly from adding new titles for them to explore. As part of the STEM magnet, my students have shown an affinity for science, engineering, and technology. Adding more nonfiction books in these areas would deepen their understanding and enable them to achieve higher levels of learning. Please help my students in their quest for knowledge!
