Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I have a class of energetic, enthusiastic, and amazing students who are eager to learn how to read! Our school is a Title I school where most students come from low-income or poverty-stricken homes.

Through the Science of Reading: I can help build better Readers!

All of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most are English Language Learners, while some have special needs. These students come to school eager to learn along with a great desire to learn how to read. I am lucky to have them in my classroom. Having decodable reading passages focused on specific phonics skills will help support their desire and eagerness to learn to read. Some students struggle with specific skills which makes it hard for them to read well. With this project I will be able to have these different passages to continue to help students with their struggles. Along with a carpet to sit on while they read. I will be able to use the decodable readers several times as well as with other groups of students in years to come. This continuous practice is one way of helping students to succeed in Reading. I am also asking for head phones so they will be able to listen to stories independently.
