This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hi all. I am Mrs. Torres, or as my students like to call me- Ms. T.

I wear many hats at my current school and many of the items listed on here will serve the various groups of students that I work with.

I teach the only 2 accelerated 8th & 7th grade courses of math and science at my school. My kids are brilliant and have so much potential for success! I am so proud to be their teacher.

In addition, I teach 7th grade health, Dance Club coach, and I'm the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) coordinator. I am in constant need of ink to print the various handouts I use for notes, activities, and tests for my students. In addition, I need to send letters to parents and make fliers for my dance club and GATE meetings. This year I ran out of my school ink first semester and have struggled to print the various items needed for me to teach and be successful in my other duties.

This is my second year teaching, and I just found out about Donors Choose. Many of my students are low income and often come to class without the necessary materials to use for learning such as pencils, highlighters, pens, calculators, and notebooks. I have tried my best to have those materials for them, but it gets difficult as I have to constantly replace items. I use whiteboards and dry erase markers often to work through math problems and for participation in class. These whiteboards and dry erase makers will be extremely helpful as well as any materials for learning in the classroom.

My current goal is to prep for the next school year with all the materials needed to make students feel welcomed, safe, and ready to succeed.
