My students need 3 laptops that will enable them to research, create writing pieces, PowerPoints and projects and also work on differentiated reading and writing tasks based on their abilities.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school (low income neighborhood) in New York City . Most students in my school receive free lunch and more than 30% are English Language Learners. They face many challenges, both emotionally and academically. But what ever challenges life throws at them, they love to learn. These students don't get many opportunities or have the resources to enhance their education at home. The classroom is the only avenue where they get a chance to feel safe to take academic risks.
Most of my students have limited access to technology and in this day and age, don't have computers at home.
To equip them for the life ahead, it is extremely necessary for them to be exposed to computers and technology. Realizing these limitations in my students' lives, I aim at providing them with a range of learning opportunities by creating a technology center in my classroom.
My Project
I plan to create a technology center in my classroom where the requested 3 Laptops will be used on a daily basis. With your help, I will be able to integrate technology into both my reading and math lessons. My students will be able to read books online and answer questions, show their writing in creative ways, create PowerPoint presentations etc. In math, my students can play competitive games and practice their math facts. Students will be able to use these Laptops to work at their ability level and get personalized practice and skill development. With the help of these Laptops, I can incorporate the online programs that were purchased by my school along with countless other resources available online.
Your assistance in funding my project will help me use technology to open new doors of learning and allow students to learn at their own pace.
Presently, my classroom has just one desktop computer for 28 students in my class. It is hard to provide opportunities for each student to work on one computer. I want to be able to provide my students access to unlimited learning opportunities with these Laptops. Having these tools in my classroom will be a great help in engaging my students and encouraging learning.
