Opening Minds to a World of Literature

My Students

The students in my classroom are truly amazing! They come to school so eager to see their friends and their teachers, despite what may be going on at home. These children come from diverse backgrounds and so many of them make choices to rise above situations they don't have control over. School is a place where they can feel cared for, welcomed, and safe.

These first graders show continuous joy each and every day they walk into our classroom!

They great me with smiles and can't wait to tell me about something that has been on their mind. It amazes me everyday to see how much they grow, mature, and learn! Each one of them has such a special personality that molds our classroom into a unique learning environment.

My Project

My first graders ADORE books! They LOVE to be read to and enjoy reading independently, as well as with friends. Some of my students come into my classroom with very little experience reading. Some may not have access to many books at home. One of my favorite things to do during the school year is foster a LOVE for reading and provide a large selection of books just for them!

The joy and enthusiasm these children have for books when they browse our classroom library is amazing!

They are so excited to find new books or grab books that were recommended by a friend. Many times they run to me to show me that "awesome" new book they just found in the library. Each of our classroom library books is treated as a special treasure!

Currently, our library is on a salvaged book shelf. The shelf is not adjustable and the books in the bins are hard to look through, and are often bent over (needing to be placed just right to get on or off the shelf), because the space between the shelves is too close together.

The mobile book racks would allow the kids in my classroom to have easier access to all of our classroom library books and leveled book box books! Students would be able to browse books and see selections much easier in these new book racks! We wouldn't have to worry about placing books "just right" so that the box can fit on the shelf and the books wouldn't end up bent over. We would also have more flexibility in configuring the set up of our classroom library, as well as having the ability to move carts of books around the room when needed!
