My Students
Nothing causing more frustration and disengagement than lessons without the right materials. Our students can't afford to be bored with reading!
My students come from primarily low-income neighborhoods where books are scarce and families to read with are often absent and unavailable. These intelligent students crave the friendships and worlds of books but need the skills and strategies to access these magical places.
My Project
These book selections guide engaging lessons putting students on track towards mastery in literacy and fun in reading. Many of these books are culturally responsive stories in which students will identify with the characters in ways they previously have not in more traditional educational materials.
With these books, I can teach with authority the skills and strategies as a part of our district's new curriculum. Reading is foundational to opening doors for all students to access the American Dream, and these mentor texts are the keystone to achieving second grade reading mastery and beyond!
